Stone Washburn

Administrative Coordinator, School of Music

Stone Washburn has been surrounded by the arts his entire life. A first-generation college graduate, Stone studied both Voice and Business at Ithaca College, graduating in 2020. In his musical studies, he focused on French and English music since the 1900s, particularly that of Poulenc, Ives, Shaw, Boulanger, and Glass. In 2020, Stone directed a scene from Glass’ Einstein on the Beach that reimagined the piece as an interpretation and meditation on gun violence in America. Contrasting the ambiguous and motionless stagings of most Knee Play scenes, this performance included staged movement through a collaborative rehearsal process that aimed to create a space for communal healing and meditation for the performers and audience.

Stone has worked for arts organizations including the Santa Fe Opera, Hangar Theatre, and Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. Stone joined the BU School of Music administrative team in the Fall of 2021 and has been filling the school with plants ever since! In January 2024, Stone stepped into the Administrative Coordinator position managing the administrative responsibilities of all School of Music academic areas.
