Aaron Goldberg

Director of Athletic Bands; Big Band/Jazz Ensemble Conductor; Senior Lecturer in Music

Aaron Goldberg is a lifelong resident of the Boston area with professional music teaching experience from kindergarten through college. As Director of Athletic Bands and a Lecturer in Music at Boston University, he directs the Marching Band, Pep Band and Big Band/Jazz Ensemble, and oversees the Winter Guard, Winter Drumline and Scarlet Band. Aaron also directs the Commencement Brass Choir and ROTC Brass Ensemble, advises the campus chapters of the nationally recognized collegiate band co-ed service fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi and sorority Tau Beta Sigma, and teaches “Special Topics in Music Education: Marching Band Pedagogy” in the Music Education Department. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from University of Massachusetts Lowell and a Master’s degree in Music Performance (Euphonium) from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.

Aaron was a cast member of the Tony and Emmy Award-winning Broadway show “Blast” on its 2005-2006 national tour, performing on euphonium, baritone, trombone, percussion, and voice. He has been involved in the drum corps activity for decades, beginning as a performing member of the Crossmen Drum Corps in 1998, and was the featured baritone soloist in 2000 and 2001. He taught the Crossmen hornline from 2002-2010, and was elected to the Crossmen Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2019. Additionally, he taught the hornlines of the Blue Stars, Boston Crusaders, 7th Regiment, Citations, Connecticut Hurricanes, Jersey Surf, Troopers, and Spartans Drum Corps. Aaron has been the brass arranger for the Spartans since 2019, winning the 2019 Drum Corps International Open Class World Championship and “Best Brass” award. Aaron has given music and leadership clinics around the United States and has arranged music for numerous high schools, colleges, and drum corps throughout the Northeast.

Aaron composed original music for a variety of documentaries and commercial videos. He has adjudicated music for the United States Scholastic Bands Association, New England Scholastic Bands Association, Massachusetts Music Educators Association and Great East Music Festivals. Prior to joining Boston University in 2011, Aaron was a high school band director and music teacher in North Andover (MA), a freelance musician in the Greater Boston area, a Pep Band director at Boston College, a 4th & 5th-grade beginner instrumental music teacher in Revere (MA), and a 4th & 5th-grade beginner instrumental music teacher and kindergarten music teacher in Wilmington (MA). He still teaches low brass lessons to elementary, middle, and high school students in the Boston area, and works as a freelance arranger, performer, educator and clinician.
