Every year, Boston University College of Fine Arts awards two undergraduate vocalists with a special honor. The Ellalou Dimmock Memorial Award is presented to students who demonstrate excellence in vocal performance throughout their undergraduate studies.

The College of Fine Arts community celebrated 2023 Dimmock Vocal Award winners, current Mirah Johnston (CFA’24) and Stella FitzGerald (CFA’24, BUTI’18), with a CFA Concert Hall recital and reception on February 6, 2024. The vocalists performed with Douglas Sumi, Lecturer in Music, Vocal Repertoire and Coaching collaborating on piano.

Their recital included works composed by Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, Richard Strauss, Gioachino Rossini, George Crumb, and Pauline Viardot.

“There’s nothing more exciting than being in the moment during a performance and your scene partner gives you something fresh to play off of, all while being connected to the conductor and orchestra and character. I learn so much from just being in the room with other artists.”

Stella FitzGerald (CFA’24)
