Cultivating Tomorrow’s Disease Experts

The Boston University and University of Liberia Emerging and Epidemic Virus Research (BULEEVR)
This program merges the strengths and resources at Boston University with existing expertise and programs at the University of Liberia, the Liberian Institute of Biomedical Research, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), and the University of Liberia’s A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine. The goal is to create a research training program that offers a pathway to pursue a Doctorate in Philosophy in basic and translational virology, microbiology, clinical research or public health. Additional partners include in-country international affiliates of the Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research Liberia and Partnership for Research on Ebola Virus in Liberia, which are conducting ongoing research on emerging pathogens in Liberia.

The goals of this multidisciplinary research training program have been crafted in response to the national research priorities outlined by the Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, working with NPHIL and existing partners with aligned goals in Liberia. CEID is providing additional training support with center faculty serving as mentors for the program.
