Dr. Hong’s program of research is on new media effects and processes, particularly in the context of health. She has examined how health media messages can prevent smoking, alcohol consumption, vaping, and other risky health behaviors. She has also examined the related effects of peer influence, including as simulated in virtual environments. Her work related to CEID will focus on health communication during public health emergencies and the impact of misinformation.
