Anoop Jain, DPH/DrPH

Assistant Professor, Environmental Health, Boston University School of Public Health

Dr. Anoop Jain is an assistant professor in the Environmental Health department at BU SPH. He received his DrPH of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley in 2019, and completed his postdoc at Harvard Medical School’s Global Health & Social Medicine department. His training is in social epidemiology. As such, his main research interests are elucidating the possible social determinants of maternal and child health in India, with a special focus on sanitation. In addition to his academic focus on sanitation issues in India, Dr. Jain is also the founding director of Sanitation and Health Rights in India (SHRI), a non-profit that improves access to toilets and safe drinking water throughout rural India. Dr. Jain is now building out a research platform within the organization that will allow Dr. Jain to further investigate how social determinants shape the health outcomes of the communities where SHRI operates. Dr. Jain has received several awards for his efforts to improve WASH outcomes in India. He received the Global Citizen Award in 2014, was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2016 and received the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian award in 2017. His work with SHRI has also been featured on MSNBC, NPR, and the BBC World News.
