Museum of Science

CEID is proud to collaborate with Boston’s Museum of Science, which has a long history of bringing new understandings of science and medicine to the public in creative and engaging ways. Beyond our campus, CEID is connecting with our home city through a range of programs with the Museum of Science.

STEM career videos

As part of the museum’s free, online STEM curriculum for middle grade students, Boston high school students interviewed CEID faculty Dr. Cassandra Pierre, an infectious diseases physician, and Dr. Laura White, a biostatistician, for their perspectives on their respective health careers.  These conversations are available as a series of short videos to educate students about the wide range of careers in STEM.

Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World – May 8, 2025
What decisions go into an active outbreak response? This interactive forum, co-hosted by CEID and the Museum of Science, engaged participants to walk through the decision-making process of responding to infectious disease threats such as avian influenza and Ebola.

Participants worked together to consider the many factors that play into these decisions, including availability of funding, testing and surveillance development, global partnerships, distribution of medical countermeasures, and alerts from the Biothreats Emergence, Analysis and Communications Network (BEACON). Stay tuned for future sessions of this workshop!

The Climate Crisis and the Future of Infectious Diseases – Oct. 30, 2025
Co-hosted with the Museum of Science as part of the museum’s 2025 theme of “Being Human,” this symposium addressed climate change and its impacts across the health of humans, animals, and the environment. The symposium’s overall objectives were to:
• Provide greater understanding of what climate change impacts on infectious diseases are and why they matter;
• Define the threats that climate change poses to the spectrum of One Health and what we can expect to see in the future;
• Discuss what steps are being taken to mitigate these threats.
