CEID Interim Director Dr. David Hamer weighed in on the spread of COVID-19 subvariants in Massachusetts:
He “said the relaxation of measures like mask use among many residents has also likely contributed to the spread. He said that anecdotally, he had seen multiple people in the past two weeks contract COVID who had not gotten it thus far in the pandemic. ‘Early in the pandemic, we talked about 10 or 15 minutes of close contact with somebody, but now, just a few minutes in an area with inadequate ventilation may be enough to lead to an infection,’ Hamer said.”
