As finals approach, Terriers are in the throes of the study period before wrapping up the spring semester. But be sure to take time to enjoy yourself amid the hustle. Here are a few ways to take a break from the books this weekend.
Undergraduate Affairs Experiential Learning Expo
The annual Undergraduate Affairs Experiential Learning Expo will showcase more than 100 student projects created for the Cross-College Challenge, the Learning Assistant Program, and BU Spark!’s Demo Day.

Study Break: Bookmaking & Bao
Pay a visit to the George Sherman Union on Friday for drop-in bookmaking, run by local artist Lecitia Avery and cosponsored by BU Arts Initiative and BU Student Wellbeing. Avery owns Lend a Hand Designs, a Somerville-based bookbinding business. She will provide guided instructions on how to make your own hand-drawn covers and handmade books.

Spring Send Off at the BU Beach
The Student Activities Office is hosting a free end-of-semester bash. Immerse yourself in flower bouquet making, jump around a bounce house, ride a mechanical bull, have fun with some lawn games, or cheer on friends at the University-wide talent show. There will also be selections of desserts and bites from a lineup of food trucks.

Screening: Art House
On May 3, catch a special screening of a new comedy TV pilot from a team of BU College of Fine Arts and College of Communication students at the Photonics Center. Art House follows a young woman who returns home after a bad breakup and discovers that her brother has turned their home into a place of work for struggling artists. The comedy was performed in front of a live studio audience at the Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre in April 2023; see BU Today’s feature story here.

Boston Red Sox vs. Washington Nationals
Take a trip to Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox take on the Washington Nationals. The Red Sox are off to a middling start this season, with a 16-13 record, ranking third in the American League East. The two teams will face off on Friday at 7:10 pm, Saturday at 4:10 pm, and Sunday at 1:35 pm. Remember to check each morning for Student9s—tickets for college students starting at $9.

Screening: BU Alums’ Documentary Flashpoint
Max Esposito (COM’10) and Nick Curran (COM’09) will screen their new documentary, Flashpoint, at the 2024 Independent Boston Film Festival on May 4 and 6. The documentary examines the “tenuous relationship between law enforcement and journalists at the front lines of protests,” according to Esposito. It will also start streaming through the LA Times website on May 3, World Press Freedom Day.

The Wake Up the Earth Festival and Parades
Food trucks, a farmers market, a dance and rock stage, and free admission—what’s not to love? If you take a trip out to Jamaica Plain on Saturday, you’ll find all that and more at its Wake Up the Earth Festival. The event kicks off with two parades, with puppets and lots of Star Wars costumes, in honor of May 4, the official Star Wars holiday.

Faneuil Hall Summer Market Series
On the first Sunday of every month, through September, you can check out the Boston Women’s Market in the beautiful upstairs rotunda in the famous Quincy Market. From handmade crafts to delicious food, there is something for everyone at this free indoor event, which features 15 local woman-owned businesses.
