Women’s Beanpot: Terriers Fall to Eagles, 2-1
Will face Northeastern in consolation game
When a hockey team’s star forward is sidelined, you know you’re in trouble. And that’s exactly what happened Tuesday night when the Terriers faced the BC Eagles in round one of the women’s Beanpot tournament.
The Terriers, ranked third in the country, fell to the seventh-ranked Eagles 2-1. BU was hurt by the loss of forward Marie-Philip Poulin (SED’14), forced to sit out the game because of an upper-body injury in last Saturday’s game against the University of New Hampshire at BU.
Tonight’s defeat was especially disappointing for the Terriers since earlier this season they had taken two of three games against BC, winning the conference season series on January 15.
Both teams competed pretty evenly during the first period, with BU and BC swapping penalties and shots on goal. Terrier starting goaltender Kerrin Sperry (CAS’14) made several outstanding saves, including one that saw five skaters pile on top of her.

BC was first to score when forward Mary Restuccia slipped past two Terrierdefensemen with only four seconds left in the first period.
The second period was marked by aggressive play by bothteams, with each incurring two penalties. BU kept BC to a mere threeshots in the period. Forward Louise Warren (CAS’14)had two good scoring chances, but Eagles senior goaltender Molly Shaus managed to save both shots.
BC went up 2-0 in the third period before forward Holly Lorms(SMG’11) scored the only BU goal of the evening after a heatedbattle in front of the net. Despite that goal, the Terriers were notable to take advantage of two power play opportunities that followed.

Sperry made 12 saves on 14 shots on the evening. The Terrier lossmarks Sperry’s first college defeat. Prior to Tuesday night, she had gone 16-0-2. Offensively, the Terriers put 33 shots on net. Jenn Wakefield (CAS’12) led the team in shots on goal, with seven on thenight.
In the evening’s first game, Harvard defeated Northeastern 4-3 in overtime, pitting BC against Harvard in next week’s Beanpot final.
Poulin was at Tuesday night’s game, but did not suit up. There is no word yet on when she is expected to return to the ice.
The Terriers will play the Northeastern Huskies in their last regular season homegame this Friday, February 11, at 7 p.m., at Walter Brown Arena. The teamwill honor its three graduating seniors at that game. Tickets are $3for faculty, staff, and students, $5 for the general public, at the box office on the day of the game.
The BU squad will then face off against Northeastern in the Beanpotconsolation game on Tuesday, February 15, at 5 p.m., at BC’s ConteForum.
