Women's basketball takes on Boston College tonight

Trailing 45-40 with 17:51 remaining inregulation, the Boston University women’s basketball team went on a24-3 run and never looked back, knocking off Central Connecticut State,79-60, in the first round of the Women’s National InvitationTournament. The win earned the Terriers their first-everpostseason victory and improved their record to 25-7, while the Blue Devils fell to18-14.The Terriers take on Boston College on Eagles turf tonight at 7 p.m.
In what may be her final game at Case Gymnasium, Kristi Dini (SAR’09) led BU with a game-high 18 points, all of them coming from beyond the arc on 6-of-12 attempts. Aly Hinton (CAS’10) had 15 points and a team-high 7 boards, and 2009 America East Player of the Year Jesyka Burks-Wiley (CAS’09) added 12. Christine Kinneary (CAS’09) dished out a game-high nine assists, and Maggie McKemie (SMG’10) came in off the bench to chip in seven points, four steals, and one block in 15 minutes of action.
The Blue Devils were led by Shontice Simmons and Leanne Crockett,who each posted 17 points. Kerrianne Dugan recorded a double-doublewith 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Terriers’ bench made a major impact in the game, scoring 19points, while the Blue Devils’ bench was held to zero. BU forced CCSUinto 21 turnovers and scored 23 points off those miscues, and alsoposted 30 points in the paint.
After a lackluster first half that saw CCSU outscore BU on thefastbreak, 6-0, and go 12-for-12 from the free-throw line, theTerriers turned it on in the second half with a game-changing 24-3run that gave them an commanding 16-point advantage with only sevenminutes remaining in regulation.
The Terriers’ defense clamped down in the second half, collecting 8 of its 10 steals and holding the Blue Devils to just .276 field goalshooting in the last stanza. BU’s bench came in to score12 points.
BU stretched its lead to 22 points — its largest of the game — withjust 1:11 remaining and held on for the 19-point victory. The Terriers advance to the second round and take on Boston College at Chestnut Hill tonight, March 23, at 7 p.m.
