YMCA Names Doreen Lindsay a Black Achiever
Doreen Lindsay, a Boston Medical Center administrator, was honored as a YMCA Black Achiever
Doreen Lindsay, an administrative manager at Boston Medical Center, was recently recognized with a 2008 YMCA Black Achiever Award from the Boston YMCA. She was honored at the annual Black Achievers Recognition Gala on February 5.
The mission of the Black Achievers program, founded in Harlem in 1970, is to recognize black employees, who in partnership with their employers give of their time and talent to the development of young people. The program was instituted at the YMCA of Greater Boston in 1975.
Lindsay, who manages the hospital’s pharmacy department, was selected for the award because she exemplifies the characteristics associated with being a Black Achiever. As an award recipient, she has committed to performing at least 40 hours of community service on behalf of youth.
Boston Medical Center has been a sponsor of the program for 11 years; 19 BMC employees have participated. “These dedicated professionals have provided educational, career, and leadership advice to young girls and boys within Boston and the surrounding communities,” says Barbara Catchings, BMC director of human resources, employment, and employee relations. “In keeping with Boston Medical Center’s mission and commitment to diversity, we also recognize and applaud employees who strive to enrich the lives of those in the community we serve.”
