Making Fenway Park New Again
A Museum of Science lecture looks at a century of ballpark design

While the Yankees pour $1.3 billion into a brand new stadium, the Red Sox are keeping tradition alive by restoring their beloved Fenway Park bit by bit. To each his own, and to the winner go the fans, ideally in droves. Tonight, the Museum of Science hosts the lecture “Fenway and the New Generation of Ballparks,” which explores the evolution of ballpark design from the early 1900s to the 1990s. The presentation is part of the series “Baseball As America,” organized by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
Tonight’s speaker is Janet Marie Smith, senior vice president of planning and development for the Boston Red Sox, and the person in charge of the renovations at Fenway Park. Smith has also worked on the revitalization of Atlanta’s Turner Field and Baltimore’s Camden Yards.
Tickets for the discussion are free and will be distributed in the museum lobby starting at 5:45 p.m. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. For more information, click here.
