BU student Carolina Duque Walicki’s work will debut in a New York gallery next week during the InCite Arts Festival, a weeklong celebration of the College of Fine Arts visual arts and performance programs. But Walicki (CFA’08), a master’s student in painting, will visit the Big Apple for only a few days — instead, she’ll be hard at work in her studio here in Boston, finishing her thesis project.
That’s fine with her, says Walicki, who chose to study painting at BU because of the heavy emphasis the school of visual arts places on studio time. “For me,” she says, “I just want to paint.”
The hard work and focus of students in the schools of music, theatre, and visual arts at CFA were the motivation behind the InCite festival, conceived as a way to showcase the artistic strengths of young up-and-coming artists. The festival will run from Sunday, March 9, through Saturday, March 15, and features plays, concerts, gallery exhibitions, and performance showcases at venues around New York. A complete schedule of events and ticket information is available on the InCite Web site.
Other events include performances of the plays Sow and Weep and Every Good Boy Deserves Favour and the one-act opera The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.
The opening reception for CFA’s MFA Exhibition is Tuesday, March 11, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Robert Steele Gallery, 511 West 25th St., New York. The exhibition runs from March 9 until March 15 and is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the InCite Arts Festival online.
