COM Student Leads Marketing Campaign
Advertising students learn in class how to organize marketing campaigns, and this semester, Melissa Goldsher (COM’09) was able to apply those lessons to a real client.
Goldsher, who works for the youth-oriented marketing network RepNation, is a brand ambassador for Current TV, a 24-hour, 7-day cable and satellite television network created by and for its audience of young adults.
“I thought it was really interesting what Current was doing,” she says. “I wanted to get the word out there to other people.”
Goldsher, along with Marco Ramirez (CGS’08), organized nine events to promote Current, which included screening movies and giving away DVDs, food, coffee, and other prizes. For three events, they used a guerilla marketing tactic, projecting Current content onto walls near high-traffic areas around campus, and waiting for people to stop and ask questions.
“The guerillas were successful for their purposes, but the Current Connection events were most successful,” Goldsher says. “Because of the brand ambassador program, there has been a lot more attention on Current.”
