The MBTA’s B-Line will temporarily stop service between Kenmore Square and Blandford Street this weekend while the T continues its renovation work on Kenmore Station. Trains will be replaced with bus service on Saturday, November 4, and Sunday, November 5; a second shutdown is scheduled for the weekend of December 9 and 10.

During the weekend, riders on the B-Line will be directed to Route 57 bus stops along Commonwealth Avenue and in Kenmore Square. Normal service is scheduled to resume on Monday morning.

The University discussed the service interruptions with the MBTA, according to James Shaer, the director of state relations in BU’s Office of Government and Community Affairs, and determined that this schedule would have the least impact on the University’s campus and on surrounding businesses.

“We have been working with the MBTA for months trying to make sure it’s seamless,” Shaer says. “By doing the shutdown these two weekends, it will reduce the long-term disruption of the BU campus.”

The construction is part of a planned overhaul of the Kenmore Square train station and bus shelter, intended to increase handicapped accessibility and improve visibility and pedestrian access. This month, the project’s contractor has been performing demolition on the station walls and roof to allow for the installation of new elevators and stairs. This weekend’s work includes track construction and continued demolition in the station.
