Congratulations to Prof Christopher Schmitt, who has an article in (Anthropology and Biology) Year in Review for American Anthropologist. “Year Without End: Primatology in 2020” was just published online.
In this review of the field of primatology in the first year of the pandemic, he discusses the ways in which primatological research pivoted to address COVID-19 – through shifts in research emphases, biomedical breakthroughs, and heated debates regarding the ethics of continued field research with newly vulnerable human and non-human primate lives at stake – as well as the ways in which the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 galvanized primatology to engage more widely with decolonization discourses and efforts.
