Peer Tutoring
Fall tutoring begins Tuesday, September 8!
Are you looking to strengthen your understanding of course content?
The ERC Peer Tutoring program gives BU students a supportive and personalized environment to address their unique curiosities and challenges with course content. In a tutoring session, you’ll have space to review and prepare for exams, get extra practice, and ask questions. Through our engaging and interactive tutoring sessions, you’ll also get insight into your habits and preferences to help you grow as a learner. Whether you’re struggling with course content, preparing for an upcoming exam, or are curious to learn more about a topic, our tutoring sessions are for you!
The ERC Peer Tutoring program primarily offers tutoring for 100-200 level courses in a variety of subjects, including biology, chemistry, economics, math, physics, and more. In most cases, humanities and upper level (300 and above) courses are not offered because of the type of material and the limited availability of tutors. Please see below for a comprehensive list of our courses offered in the Fall 2026 semester:

What to Expect
ERC Peer Tutors know the challenges of your course because they’ve been through it themselves.
Peer Tutors are undergraduate students just like you, and they understand the rigor and expectations of the courses you’re taking. They are here to guide, encourage, and support you in your learning process. Having excelled in the courses they’re tutoring, they can also offer insight into how to be successful in a particular subject.
Peer Tutors are not professors and do not prepare lesson plans, so please bring questions and practice problems with you. You will get the most out of your session by thinking through your goals for the session ahead of time, and then actively engaging during the tutoring session. Since tutoring is so individualized, your participation is the key to a productive tutoring session!
Please do not contact Peer Tutors with content questions outside of an appointment. If you would like additional support with a topic, schedule another appointment or stop by one of our drop-in sessions.
ERC Tutoring Policies & TracCloud FAQ
Academic Misconduct Policy
All tutors and tutees are expected to adhere to BU’s Academic Conduct Code. Any work submitted by a student must be their own. Any deviation from this may be considered academic misconduct. Any violation of the Academic Conduct Code will result in immediate termination of Peer Tutoring services.
You may also be interested in reading our Homework Policy below.
Homework Policy
Tutors are not permitted to work on homework that you are submitting for a grade. They can help you figure out how to approach the problem and are more than happy to help you with similar practice problems, but any work you submit for a grade must be your own.
Scheduling & Attendance Policy
Tutoring appointments must be scheduled ahead of time via TracCloud. Please note that new availabilities for the upcoming week are released on Thursday evenings. You do not need to schedule an appointment in advance for Wednesday or Sunday drop-ins; feel free to just come by!
In order to provide tutoring to all BU undergraduate students, you are limited to one appointment per subject per day and two appointments per subject within a seven day period.
Because we experience high demand for our tutoring services, we ask that, should you need to cancel, you do so by contacting your tutor at least 24-hours in advance of your appointment session. You can find your tutor’s email in the confirmation email you received from TracCloud when you scheduled the appointment. Should you no-show for your appointment, you will be marked “missed.” We allow a maximum of two missed appointments per semester. Should you miss more, your TracCloud account will automatically lock, and you’ll need to connect with ERC staff to regain access.
Other Tutoring Services & Resources
ERC Peer Tutoring is not the only resource available to you! We encourage you to take full advantage of your professors’, teaching fellows’, and/or teaching assistants’ office hours. Additionally, there may be other services offered by a particular department. Some available services are highlighted in our Resource Guide.
TracCloud FAQ
Why can’t I access TracCloud? This may be a system error – please send us an email!
Why don’t I see any courses in the drop-down menu? This means that, unfortunately, you are not registered for any courses in which we offer tutoring. If your course is listed on this page under “Courses We Tutor” but does not appear on TracCloud, please send us an email!
Why don’t I see any appointments? This most likely means that all available appointments for this course have been filled for the week. You can continue checking throughout the week, but the most appointments will be available on Thursday nights or Friday mornings, when tutors post their schedules for the following week.
If you have other questions about our Tutoring Program or how to schedule an appointment, please email us at erctutor@bu.edu.
Tutor Trainings
The ERC facilitates our research-backed, skills-based tutor training session by request for tutors, CAs, and TAs in departments across campus! We discuss the characteristics of good tutoring, best practices for managing a tutoring session or office hours, and the science behind effective learning strategies. Faculty and staff are encouraged to email Kaylee Ellis, Assistant Director for Tutoring Services, at kaellis@bu.edu to schedule a training.
