University Policy
Questrom students are accountable to the above Boston University Academic Conduct Code, designed to assist in the development of a supportive and productive learning environment. It is both a description of the University’s ethical expectations of students as well as a guarantee of students’ rights and responsibilities as members of a learning community. The code provides clarity related to policy and procedure regarding academic conduct and is intended to establish an environment of integrity and professionalism that helps to promote recognition of individual academic work. All students are responsible for having read Boston University’s Academic Conduct Code.
Any charges of academic misconduct are referred to the Questrom Designated Dean for investigation and possible referral to the Questrom Academic Conduct Committee. The Academic Conduct Committee is comprised of a student, an administrator, and faculty members who hear charges of academic violations brought forward by faculty, administrators, or students. Violations of the Academic Conduct Code include, but are not limited to, cheating on an examination or assignment, communication during an examination, plagiarism, and violations of the rules on teamwork. The committee is authorized to impose sanctions on the basis of its findings. Sanctions include, but are not limited to, a grade penalty, probation, suspension, or expulsion.
In all charges of academic misconduct against a student, the student is entitled to full procedural fairness in any disciplinary proceedings that may be conducted. A description of the procedures adopted by the Academic Conduct Committee appears in Boston University’s Academic Conduct Code.
