Registration
College of Communication Policy
COM students, and declared minors in COM, get priority to register for COM courses. Once all current COM majors and minors have had a chance to register, COM courses are opened up to the rest of the University on a date referred to as Cross-Registration.
Some seats in introductory COM courses are initially reserved for incoming external transfer students or for incoming first-year graduate students, all of whom are unable to register during the assigned registration period. Any remaining seats are usually released just before the first day of classes each term.
COM does not keep waitlists in the MyBU student information system. Department administrators may choose to run internal waitlists for courses, depending on demand.
COM does not allow students to register for COM courses above the enrollment limit. There are no exceptions to this.
Any students who register for COM courses without having completed the listed prerequisite(s) will be dropped from those courses no later than the last day to add courses each term. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of listed prerequisites.
In general, COM does not accept Add/Drop forms, even if they are signed by instructors. Students are able to register for appropriate courses via MyBU. If students are unable to register through MyBU, it is because the course is full or the course is reserved for different populations. If students feel they should be able to register for an open seat in a course but are unable to, they can contact the COM Registrar’s office.
