What is WordPress?

WordPress is a state-of-the-art web publishing platform that places an emphasis on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. Introduced in 2003, WordPress is one of the most widely used blogging tools, used on hundreds of thousands of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day. WordPress is built following W3C standards for XHTML and CSS, ensuring that your site is more easily rendered across standards-compliant browsers.

Currently, it’s blogging capabilities are being utilized by prominent companies such as Yahoo and The New York Times. WordPress is Open Source, meaning that it is free and available to be changed, modified and improved upon by any developer world-wide. As a result, WordPress has been designed with the user in mind, making it remarkably easy to use. In addition, WordPress has built an enormous online community, providing support and inspiration to both new and experienced users.
