1. If this is the first time you have configured Outlook at all, it will launch a wizard to walk you through the process. If you want to, you can follow the wizard through, but our instructions will assume that you click on Cancel, allowing us to help you configure the mail program using the menus.
  2. Once Outlook is open and the wizard is closed, choose Outlook and thenĀ Preferences.
  3. Click on the Accounts button.
  4. Select the E-mail Account option.
  5. Enter your email address in the format of BUlogin@bu.edu.
  6. Use your Kerberos password in the Password field and your BU login name for the User name field.
  7. Make sure the Type drop-down menu shows IMAP.
  8. In the Incoming server section, enter acs-imap.bu.edu, select Use SSL to connect (recommended), and be sure the port field (right of the acs-imap.bu.edu field) shows 993.
  9. Below that, in the Outgoing server section, enter smtp.bu.edu, select both Override default port and Use SSL to connect (recommended), and then enter 465 in the port field (right of the smtp.bu.edu field).
  10. Click Add Account.
  11. Your account should then connect and show a new screen where you’re free to adjust your settings. If you’re receiving errors saying that you can’t authenticate, try reentering your BU login name, email address, or Kerberos password. You may also change the Account description field to whatever you’d like and adjust the Full name field to whatever you would like to display on outbound email messages.
  12. Once all the settings are as you’d like them to be, close the Accounts window.
