SMSC wants to provide students opportunities to network with other students and faculty at Boston University with the hope of fostering well-rounded scholars and unique, collaborative projects.

Academic Programs

The Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Boston University recently approved two undergraduate, interdisciplinary minors. For additional information on either of these minors, please contact the Institute.

Minor in Muslim Societies: The minor in Muslim Societies encompasses a predominantly Social Sciences (SS) curriculum. Students will be required to take 1) One required SS course from a list of five; 2) Three SS electives; 3) One Humanities (HU) elective, which may include a language course level 212 or higher.

Minor in Muslim Cultures: The minor in Muslim Cultures features a Humanties-themed (HU) course load. Students will be required to take 1) One course from a list of four in Religion; 2) One course from a list of Literature courses; 3) One language course in Arabic, Persian, or Turkish level 212 or higher); 4) Two elective HU courses; 5) One elective Social Science (SS) course.

Rabat (Morocco) Study Abroad Program: In the heart of Rabat’s medina, students live, learn, and explore the language and culture of North Africa. The Rabat Language and Liberal Arts Program takes students into the world of Arabic language and into the culture of Islam and North Africa, in Morocco’s cosmopolitan capital city. Along with an intensive study of Arabic language, students explore the history, politics, and religion of Morocco and this ever-changing region of the world through coursework, homestays, and excursions. Upon successful completion of the program students will earn 16 Boston University credits.
