Alleged Iranian terror plot

October 12th, 2011

Joseph Wippl, professor of international relations and a 30-year CIA operations veteran, offers the following comment on the alleged terrorist plot led by Iran to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States:

“Whoever in Iran ordered this operation or condoned it, not because it was wrong but because it was botched, could become the object of criticism from his enemies within the opaque Iranian system of government.

“The question is: Among the leadership (or better, leaderships), who knew of this operation and when did they know it? There is a power struggle going on below the surface in Iran. This incident could serve one of the parties against the other.”
