Kevin Gallagher Discusses Capital Controls on EconSouth Now
Kevin Gallager, Pardee Faculty Fellow and Associate Professor of international relations at Boston University, discusses capital controls and the evolving school of thought regarding them on the latest podcast of EconSouth Now. In the podcast, Gallagher discusses the numerous challenges emerging-market economies face, among them the economic imbalances that large fluctuations in foreign investment can produce, complicating the conducting of monetary policy.
Prof. Gallagher, in collaboration with José Antonio Ocampo and Stephany Griffith-Jones of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD) at Columbia University, recently convened a task force on “Managing Capital Flows for Long-Run Development” on behalf of the Pardee Center on September 16, 2011.
