The History Department at BU has a national and international reputation in the field of historical scholarship, and the faculty is equally committed to teaching and addressing the academic concerns of students. Faculty believe that the study of the past not only prepares students for understanding the present, but provides valuable life and career skills, including the ability to criticize, organize, and synthesize information and to write with clarity and precision. Undergraduates pursue a range of topics, including American, European, African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Latin American history. The graduate program is particularly strong in American, European, and African history.
