BUWG Voices and Reflections
Welcoming a New Year of Connection

A new academic year always brings fresh opportunities to connect, grow, and celebrate the vibrant community we share at Boston University. At the BU Women’s Guild, our mission of fostering belonging, building friendships, and supporting women across campus continues to guide and inspire us.
This year also marks the launch of our new newsletter, Inspire. — a space to highlight voices across the Guild, share news and opportunities, and celebrate the contributions of women at BU. We hope it becomes a thread of connection that keeps our community engaged and uplifted throughout the year.
I am honored to step into the role of President of the Boston University Women’s Guild this year and deeply grateful to Amanda Urias for her outstanding leadership over the past two academic years. Alongside our dedicated board—Holly Conviser, Mumtaz Badshah Brown, Jennifer Lloyd, and Korinne Dizon-Miller—and our tireless committee chairs Elizabeth Flagg, Folake Stephanie Atchade, Kady Rawal, Samantha Khosla, Maureen McCarthy, Hannah Emmert, Maria Ober, Patricia MacKinnon, Jana Mulkern, and Aliyah Phipps—we will continue to build on the Guild’s legacy. We are also fortunate to have the support of our exceptional administrative coordinator, Jenna Dalton.

I am delighted to welcome our new Honorary President, Kamrhan Farwell, BU’s Senior Vice President for University Relations. Kamrhan brings deep expertise in external relations and will play a vital role in aligning BUWG’s efforts with the University’s strategic priorities while supporting our mission.
My own journey with BUWG began in 2015, shortly after I joined BU. Having recently relocated from upstate New York, I was seeking both professional connections and a welcoming community. I found both in the Guild, along with friendships that continue to enrich my life and work.
This year, I invite you to join us in celebrating the intellectual, scholarly, and professional contributions of women across BU. By becoming a member of the Guild, you also support meaningful initiatives like subsidized housing for BU graduate students—just one example of how we invest in the next generation of leaders.
We have an exciting lineup of events ahead, beginning with an interactive session on building meaningful relationships to accelerate your career, featuring BU alumna Kate Barrand (Questrom ’85), President and CEO of Horizons for Homeless Children. Be sure to also mark your calendar for the Newcomer’s Luncheon on October 15, hosted by Kamrhan Farwell and featuring COM Dean Mariette DiChristina-Gerosa, as well as a November 18 program at the School of Medicine on research addressing issues unique to veterans.
I look forward to greeting many of you at these gatherings and to a year filled with learning, collaboration, and celebration. Together, let’s make 2025–26 a truly inspiring chapter for the BU Women’s Guild.
