WIN Colloquia Program

The goals of the sponsored colloquia program are to increase the visibility of women in STEM departments, strengthen the networking and career opportunities for women in the STEM disciplines, and bring new ideas to BU from industry and other ADVANCE schools. Both Colloquia programs are designed to integrate into existing seminar or colloquia series within departments and centers.

Women in Industry Colloquium Program brings women scientists and engineers in non-academic careers to Boston University in order to provide faculty and graduate students with additional female role-models and mentors while providing information on industry agendas and networking opportunities for all faculty. WIN will sponsor up to 4 industry colloquia each year.

An honorarium of $250 will be paid to the speaker from the WIN budget.  In addition, the hosting group can request an additional $200 for a reception associated with the seminar.  No travel funds are available for this colloquia program as we expect that the nominees will be from somewhere in the vicinity.  The colloquium will be publicized through WIN and WISE in addition to the hosting unit’s normal publicity.  The publicity should state that the seminar is co-sponsored by the BU WIN Initiative.

Women of ADVANCE Colloquium Program is aimed at fostering relationships with women in STEM disciplines from other NSF ADVANCE Institutions with programs designed to advance women faculty in the STEM disciplines. WIN will sponsor 2 visits each year to BU by female faculty members who are also active with ADVANCE programs at their institutions. Each visit will include a research seminar given as part of an ongoing college, departmental, or center seminar series as well as an ADVANCE related seminar or discussion during which WIN participants can learn more about the initiatives and outcomes of ADVANCE at the visitor’s university.

An honorarium of $250 will be paid to the speaker from the WIN budget.  In addition, the hosting group can request an additional $200 for a reception associated with the seminar.  Travel expenses for the ADVANCE speaker will also be provided from the WIN budget.
