In the most recent BU technology services satisfaction survey, the BU community expressed concerns about the lack of outdoor Wi-Fi coverage.  Students, faculty and staff would like to stay connected while waiting for the BU Bus, or studying on the BU Beach. We hear you!

The IS&T outdoor Wi-Fi pilot project will provide several installations on the Charles River Campus including:

These locations were selected based upon:

  • Locations where the University routinely hosts outdoor events
  • Locations commonly used as gathering spaces for individual or group study.

The pilot will help IS&T gain experience working with Facilities Management and others to address challenging aesthetic issues, while providing the appropriate mix of wireless technology and antenna deployment necessary to provide adequate coverage.

Usage and feedback submitted to ithelp@bu.edu will continue to be tracked during the 2019 summer and fall semesters. Based on these results, additional projects may be proposed to cover areas identified as underserved where many BU students, faculty and staff would benefit from expanded coverage.
