Volume 1 – 2020
From the Editor
What’s new with BW reporting? A major effort by the Development and Business Analysis (BA) teams has been focused on converting existing data structures so they will continue to work seamlessly with current reports at the same time they position us to take advantage of potential future reporting mechanisms. Other members of the Dev and BA teams are working to enhance existing reports based on requirements submitted by report users in both central and distributed departments.
On the training front, meanwhile, instructor-led workshops are continuing – they are all currently online – and we continue to give thought to finding ways to share information that will improve the experiences of our report users. To that end, two new videos have been added to the Help library. The videos are introduced in the Tips & Tricks section below.
I hope you find this issue of the Newsletter informative. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for future BW Newsletter topics.

Introductory Workshops
An assortment of introductory workshops is offered every month. These sessions introduce the fundamentals of BW reporting for each of the BUworks functional areas. The sessions are a great way to review material, too. Even if you previously attended an intro session, you are likely to learn new things about reporting – or to be reminded of concepts that you had forgotten.

Intermediate-Level Workshops
These workshops are intended for employees who have completed an associated intro-level workshop and/or who have experience running BW reports. The agenda for each workshop will be driven by questions submitted by attendees. Follow these links to view workshop descriptions and/or to register for an upcoming session:

Online Office Hours *New*
In this brave new world of online meetings and training sessions, I am experimenting with a new venue to work with report users: online office hours. Do you have a question or two but you don’t want to sit through an entire workshop? I have set aside several one-hour time slots in April and early May for anyone with a BW question. Register to attend one of the scheduled sessions and we will connect online to explore potential answers. Once you have registered, I will send connection instructions and we will meet online at the appointed time. Join me!
Tips & Tricks
Overview of BW Help Resources
A diverse array of materials has been developed to provide answers to all sorts of reporting questions. This overview video provides a high-level look at those materials and describes how to access them. I encourage you to spend just six minutes to familiarize yourself with these materials. The time you spend watching the video now will be returned many times over in the future by showing you how to answer your questions – whether those questions are about reports, the data they contain, or the various ways in which you can control how report data is displayed.
Review of Controls Available in BW Instructional Videos
Did you know that when watching any of the longer instructional videos you can jump directly to content you’re interested in, rewind or fast-forward the video, or control playback speed? This one minute video describes how to do exactly that.
Future Video Topics
What topics would you like to see demonstrated in a short video? Are you finding it difficult to answer a question that periodically (or frequently) arises? Do you have a question about some aspect of reporting? Let me know!

Custom Training Sessions
Have you ever thought that it would be useful if you could get members of your department together with a trainer to focus on BUworks functionality that is specific to the work your department does? Many of your colleagues have reached out to me and we developed workshops tailored to their specific reporting interests (13 sessions in 2018; two sessions thus far in 2019, with another two on the way). I’m happy to work with any department or group that would like to develop and conduct a custom intermediate-level training session. There are only two requirements for such a session: (1) input from the group is necessary to develop a relevant agenda, and (2) the group should include three or more employees. If you’re interested in discussing the development of a custom session for your department or school/college,contact me via email.
