Volume 4 – 2018

I’m about to head out the door for some hiking in several of the amazing National Parks in Utah. Before I go, though, I wanted to get this Newsletter in your hands.

Portal Changes
Two new features have been added to the Reporting area of the BUworks portal:

  1. A direct link to the BW Newsletter Archive
  2. A Service Dashboard that includes daily data load status information

BW Newsletter Archive Link

The Reporting Home Page now provides direct access to the BW Newsletter Archive.

Click on this link (1) to display all BW Newsletters from the most recent volume through 2015,  the first year of the Newsletter.

Service Dashboard

Display the Dashboard by clicking on the Home tab (2 in the image above). The Dashboard contains several displays, two of which that are likely to be of particular interest to many users. The first is the “crawl” at the top of the page (3) that contains information about whether or not load problems were encountered the previous night and, if so, when the problems are expected to be resolved. Specific information regarding which loads completed – and when they completed – is available in the Dataload Status report (4).

Training Calendar

May/June Training Opportunities

Introductory Workshops
An assortment of introductory workshops is offered every month. These sessions present to new employees – or employees assigned a new business role – the fundamentals of reporting for a particular subject area. The sessions are a great way to review material, too. Even if you previously attended an intro session, you are likely to learn new things about reporting – or to be reminded of concepts that you had forgotten.

Click on any of the following links for a course description and/or to register for an upcoming session:

Funds Management Reporting

Grants Management Reporting

Supplier Resource Management Reporting

Labor Distribution (Payroll) Reporting

Intermediate/Advanced Workshops
No May intermediate sessions are planned. If you are financial administrator, though, stay tuned for an email invitation to join representatives from the General Accounting, Budget, PAFO and Procurement offices for a webinar focused on year-end closing.

Tips & Tricks

Do you know that all tips published in BW Newsletters are archived on this page? The intention of this month’s tip is to highlight the archive and to point out that the tips have all been organized into categories like “Tips involving the Variable Entry Screen,” “Tips involving Key Figures,” and so forth.

Take a few minutes to visit the page and familiarize yourself with the many available entries. I think you will find this to be a rich resource that will come in handy the next time you need to run a Business Warehouse report.

Custom Training Sessions

Have you ever thought that it would be really useful if you could get members of your department together with a trainer to focus on BUworks functionality that is specific to the work your department does? I’m happy to work with any department or group that would like to develop and conduct a custom basic- or intermediate-level reporting training session. There are only two requirements for such a session: (1) input from the group is necessary to develop a relevant agenda, and (2) the group should include four or more employees. If you’re interested in discussing the development of a custom session for your department or school/college,contact me via email or give me a call at 617-353-6382.
