Cronulla

Easily accessible by train Cronulla is the largest beach in Sydney’s south and less touristy than its better known Sydney counterparts. Cronulla and North Cronulla offer beautiful surfing and body boarding on lifesaver patrolled beaches. The post-beach nightlife rivals that of Sydney and the pie shop has been voted Australia’s best.

Directions to Cronulla: Take a train from Central directly to the beach where the train terminates. Surfboards and bikes can be carried on trains.

According to the local: Sharon

“Take the train to Cronulla station and shake off the cobwebs with a coffee at the beach kiosk or a battered sav (like a pig in a blanket ozzie-style). Take a dip on North Cronulla beach then walk the long expanse of sand toward Allura and Wanda or along the beachside promenade to Bass and Flinders Point. During the afternoon Cronulla Mall beckons where boutique shops and surf outlets thrive. The local art deco cinema offers current movies at cheap prices. Alternatively take the afternoon ferry from Gunamatta across to Bundeena and experience Gibbon Beach where Aboriginal rock carvings can be explored at the far end of the beach. Then it’s back to Cronulla beach to a seafood platter and a cold glass of Verdehlo wine at C-Level a restaurant overlooking the waves at dusk. My alternative favourite day is at Doyle’s at Watson’s Bay where stuffed jumbo prawns are the order to make with a walk up to the rugged cliffs of the Gap after lunch. En route by rail Como Pub is another favourite stop-over.”
