Focus within BU Sustainability: Sowmya focuses on promoting sustainability on the BU Medical Campus by engaging staff, students, and faculty in practical, environmentally responsible practices. She encourages behaviors like using water fountains instead of plastic bottles, participating in the “Choose to Reuse” program, and adopting simple energy conservation habits such as switching off lights and devices when not in use. She also aims to raise awareness about BU’s sustainability initiatives, including the Net Zero Direct Emissions Project, Climate Action Lab programs, and other carbon-neutral efforts.

Education & career aspirations: Sowmya is passionate about using her public health, clinical, and research experience to promote sustainability in healthcare settings. Her focus lies on hospital-based initiatives like energy efficiency, waste reduction, and recycling, while engaging staff, students, and faculty in meaningful ways.
