Environmental educator connecting children with nature.

About

Growing up in Northern Vermont, I spent a lot of time hiking, camping, gardening, and snowboarding. All my favorite hobbies rely on the natural world, and my family expresses a lot of gratitude and responsibility for the environment.

When I moved to Boston, I realized many people didn’t grow up with the same deep connection to nature. This got me thinking: when do people develop their relationship with the environment? Through my studies, I learned that children begin forming values and behaviors as early as two or three, making this the most effective time to shape lifelong habits. I returned to my elementary school to interview six- and seven-year-olds and found that they absorb a lot from TV shows, YouTube, books, and games - yet few of these emphasize environmental topics.

While a student at BU, I founded Idori (I Dream of Real Impact) to make environmental learning fun and accessible for children through eco-friendly characters that are relatable and empowering. Utilizing interactive games, we cover topics like deforestation, ocean conservation, and air pollution through books for learning, plush toys for emotional connection, and activity kits for real-world action. We also run in-school programs across Boston and have reached about 30 classrooms as of spring 2025 (Pre-K to 3rd grade).

My long-term vision is to create a platform where children interact online, but with real-world impact. Time spent playing our games earns in-game currency that can be donated to real environmental causes.

BU Highlights

I was President of the BU Entrepreneur's Club and organized the university’s first Sustainability Innovation Conference, which featured a panel of young environmental changemakers and was attended by 100+ people. I also worked with several startups to provide mentorship and coaching.

Innovate@BU was an incredible resource for mentorship, funding, and overall support. I participated in the First-Year Innovation Fellowship, Innovation Pathway, and the New Venture Competition. I also received support from BU Sustainability and Innovate@BU for Idori through the Sustainability Innovation Seed Grant. We were also accepted into MassChallenge’s 2023 Early-Stage Accelerator Program - one of our proudest achievements.

I was part of the Campus Climate Lab, working on planting a Miyawaki Forest. After graduation, I established a partnership with the Born Global Foundation (where I work as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence) and the Charles River Watershed Association. Now, we’re collaborating with Parks and Recreation, the Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Boston Public Schools to find a site for a Miyawaki forest in Boston. I'm using a lot of what I learned at the Campus Climate Lab to help develop this forest.

Excitement

I’m excited to see more pollinator gardens, flower beds, micro forests, and other projects at BU that support biodiversity, reduce the urban heat island effect, and make our campus more beautiful.

Advice for BU Students

Seek out mentorship early. One of the best ways to do so is by consistently showing up. During my time at BU, I started walking into Innovate@BU’s space, introducing myself, and returning regularly. Over time, I got to know almost everyone there and built those mentor relationships naturally. And don’t underestimate peer mentors! Some of my most valuable mentors were fellow students who had the freshest, most relevant advice.
