About

I am the Coordinator of Dance in the Department of Physical Education, Recreation, & Dance. I became the sustainability liaison for the department, and I work with a small committee to ensure the sustainable practices of the department. I became interested in the world of sustainability through my aunt’s dedication to recycling, and before we had recycling in our offices, I would bring the recycling home to dispose of it properly!

BU

As the sustainability liaison for the Department of Physical Education, there are many strides I take to further the sustainability of BU. We have recycling bins throughout the building for the different waste streams, including battery recycling in the building. We have implemented composting as well, which is used by the staff and those who participate in BU’s nutrition classes. The facility has sensors that ensure that the lighting in the building is automatic to save energy. I circulate a page of recommendations to our staff as to how we can personally decrease our environmental impact.

Advice for BU Students

Although it is discouraging to read what’s going on and to feel that there is little to be done, everyone’s efforts matter, as does our mindset. It is important to take responsibility and be an advocate for sustainability.
