All registered students are eligible to apply for the Dental plans described below.
Option 1:
MetLife Preferred Dental Plan (PDP):
Students can purchase dental insurance for themselves and dependents through METLife. This plan is not administered by BU and must be purchased directly through METLife.
The MetLife Preferred Dental Plan (PDP) Plus network provides access to a nationwide network of dentists. The plan features in and out-of-network benefits. If you visit an in-network dentist you will optimize your coverage as out-of-network benefits are covered at a lower percentage.
MetLife Preferred Dental Plan (PDP): Open Enrollment Period
- Twelve Month Plan: Fall: June 10 – September 20, 2026, (coverage effective August 15, 2026, – 08/14/2027)
- Six Month Plan: Spring: November 4 – January 31, 2027, (coverage effective February 15, 2027, – 08/14/2027)
MetLife Preferred Dental Plan (PDP): Premiums (apply and pay directly at METLife’s website. Payment in full due with the submitted application)

BUGWU PhD candidates who are members of the BUGWU, visit the Provost’s website for details about the available subsidy. For any additional questions regarding your union benefits, contact your union representative. METLife cannot answer any questions regarding BUGWU benefits.
Option 2: Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Student Discount Program (a discount option available at the BU Henry M. Goldmen School of Dental Medicine. This is not dental insurance)
(no cost to join, a 10% discount offered on dental services provided at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Your initial appointment includes a comprehensive oral evaluation performed at no charge
