Journey from Spark! Ambassador to MassMutual Data Engineer

A year and a half ago, one MassMutual Data Engineer walked the halls of Boston University as a Spark! Ambassador. Now, Sandy Seedhom is returning to her alma mater, letting students know the sky’s the limit.

While at BU, Seedhom constantly evaluated what career path would be most fulfilling. Changing her major four times, the New Jersey native followed her heart and always bet on herself. 

“The only internship experience I had prior to joining MassMutual was in the Spark! course that I took my junior year. In my interviews, I would explain my transition into CS, my minimal CS experience, and my willingness to learn, and everyone I spoke to appreciated my determination to make it in CS,” she said. “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and apply for positions you think you won’t get because you don’t have the experience.”

Fast forward to present day and not only did Seedhom land a full-time job at MassMutual, the prestigious company facilitated her continuous growth by offering her a position within the MassMutual Data Engineering Development Program (DEDP). 

“Overall, joining the DEDP at MassMutual has been one of the best decisions I’ve made and I highly recommend a development program for those unsure about what career field they’re interested in yet,” added Seedhom. “That goes to show their strong belief in educating their employees, as well as their desire for employees that are willing to learn.”

On Thursday, October 28, Seedhom invites students to join the MassMutual team during their virtual BU Career Fair at 5:30 p.m. Terriers will meet leaders from Data Science, Data Management & Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering, plus “learn more about upcoming job and internship opportunities, and hear about the experiences of current employees within the development programs MassMutual has to offer.”
