Guacamole Dip
Adapted from Joy Food Sunshine
Yield: 8, 2 tbsp servings
Ingredients
- 3 medium avocados
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ -1 tsp sea salt
- ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1-2 tbsp lime juice
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 small tomatoes, deseeded and diced
Directions
- Cut open avocados lengthwise, remove the pit, and use a spoon to scoop the flesh into a medium-sized mixing bowl.
- Use a potato masher or fork and gently mash the avocado, leaving it slightly chunky.
- Add cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, ½ tsp salt, pepper, and 1 tbsp lime juice.
- If you prefer a smoother guacamole, use a fork or potato masher to mix in the spices as you mash the mixture. If you prefer a chunkier guacamole, use a rubber spatula to stir in the spices until well combined.
- Add cilantro and tomatoes and stir until combined.
- Taste and add extra salt or lime juice if needed.
- Let sit for up to 30 minutes at room temperature before serving.
- You may place it in the fridge if you make it more than 30 minutes ahead. We recommend plopping a pit in the middle, adding a splash of lime juice to the top layer, and covering it tightly with plastic wrap (so no air gets to the guacamole) to prevent browning.
- Serve at room temperature or cold, whichever you prefer.
What We Liked
- We enjoyed the freshness, creaminess, and richness of this dip.
- We appreciate the ease of preparing this dip, and how it doesn’t take long to make!
Suggestions
- If you are making this dip in a dorm, it is helpful to consider how even if this recipe contains many different spices, you can also work with what you’ve got- salt & pepper can go a long way! You can also purchase a spice sampler from Amazon, Target or the Dollar Store, which contains 6 different spices at a lower cost.
- Given that guacamole tends to turn brown easily we suggest that it isn’t used in meal prepping that would not involve storage techniques that prevent browning.
- If you enjoy the fresh flavor of onions, you can replace the onion powder in the recipe with a tablespoon of diced onions.
