Graduate Student in Spanish
Tijana Cupic is a PhD Candidate in Spanish at Boston University’s Department of Romance Studies. Her research focuses on contemporary Latin American literature and culture, particularly the affective politics of migration within transnational contexts, including Mexico, Central America, and the Balkans. She has published papers examining films about the U.S.-Mexican border, the historical and cultural ties between Latin America and Yugoslavia, and the interplay between organized crime and state authority in Mexico and Colombia. Currently, Tijana is finalizing her dissertation on the affective transnational immigrant culture as portrayed in contemporary Latin American and Post-Yugoslav literature. Additionally, she is working on a project that explores the intersection of literary studies, machine learning, and U.S. immigration policies.
