Born in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Alejandro and his family arrived in the United States in 1986. Fifteen years later, he moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, where he lived for more than a decade. Once back in the US and after 35 years in the corporate world, Alejandro decided to dedicate his “second youth” to his first love: Literature. He obtained a Certificate in Translation from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, followed by an MFA in Literary Translation from Boston University. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Romance Studies, writing a dissertation — Admiraciones e intuiciones para la reconstrucción del canon: Ensayos en rizoma — that proposes a rhizomatic rereading of the Latin American literary canon through an original theoretical framework he calls transconsciencia. His scholarly work has appeared in Harvard University’s Observatorio del Instituto Cervantes, and his research on translation and canon formation is cited in a forthcoming book from Johns Hopkins University Press. His academic interests span comparative literature, literary theory, and translation studies, with a focus on twentieth- and twenty-first-century texts. His work proceeds from what he calls a posición filoliteraria — in both senses of the term: a passion for literature, and the place where philosophy and literature fall in love.
