Background
Mikal de la Mata Cruz completed her bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus. After living in Puerto Rico and Buenos Aires, she moved to Syracuse, NY in order to pursue a master’s degree in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics at Syracuse University, where she focused her research on contemporary Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She has also worked as a Spanish Teaching Assistant at Syracuse University. Her research interests include the discourses of memory, and the representations of cities and space in Caribbean literatures.
