Inspired by Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s 2015 memoir and realized by acclaimed film director Walter Salles, “I’m Still Here” portrays the Paiva family in 1970s Brazil. The film focuses on how Eunice Paiva, a mother of five, coped with the arrest and disappearance of her husband, Rubens Paiva, a former leftist congressman, by the military dictatorship. In her quest for justice, Eunice Paiva became a lawyer and a human rights activist who contributed to the demarcation of Indigenous lands in Brazil.
“I’m Still Here” has been nominated for three Academy Awards in 2025, including Best Picture, Best International Feature Film, and Best Actress. Fernanda Torres, who plays the role of Eunice Paiva, won the Golden Globe for Best Actress earlier this year.
