A talk by Carlos Henríquez Consalvi

The Department of Romance Studies and the Latin American Studies Program of Boston University are pleased to announce a talk by

Carlos Henríquez Consalvi

entitled

“Comunicación en tiempos convulsos, memoria en tiempos de paz”

Carlos Henríquez Consalvi is the founding Director of the Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen, San Salvador (http://museo.com.sv/).  Known in El Salvador as “Santiago,” Consalvi established “Radio Venceremos,” a clandestine radio operation, at the beginning of the civil war in El Salvador (1980-1992) that pitted militant rebels, the FMLN, against a military supported by the U.S. government. After the war ended in a negotiated peace settlement, Consalvi turned his attention to documenting the history and culture of El Salvador given that so much of the historical record had been lost during the war. The Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen has gathered an important collection of archival material, supported traveling exhibitions, and produced several documentary films.  The Museo’s exhibition dedicated to Salvadoran writer Roque Dalton (1935-1975) will be on display during Consalvi’s visit at the newly inaugurated community center “Casa El Salvador” in East Boston.
