MFA in Literary Translation Approved
We are delighted to announce that a new MFA in Literary Translation has been officially approved by Boston University!
The program will be based in the Department of World Languages & Literatures, but will invite and depend upon the active involvement of faculty from all Humanities departments, especially Romance Studies, Classics, Creative Writing, English, and History. There are many distinguished translators among the BU faculty in the Humanities, but even those who don’t publish translations engage with translation in their research, writing, and teaching. This new program builds on a long tradition of translation at BU, including our 40-year old Translation Seminar, which has hosted hundreds of renowned translators and scholars over the years.
The director of the MFA in Literary Translation, Anna Zielinska-Elliot, said in announcing the program’s approval, “Given the fractious times in which we live, we believe now is an opportune moment to promote the kinds of skills – such as patient attention to linguistic nuance and creative cultural sympathy – upon which successful approaches to translation are founded. “
