Patrick Autreaux Pens New Novel, Nominated for 2 Prizes

Image of the Cover of Patrick Autréaux's Book Quand la parole attend la nuitPatrick Autreaux, who has taught at BU Romance Studies multiple times in the capacity of Writer in Residence, has written a new novel that has rapidly gained acclaim. Quand la parole attend la nuit centers on an apprentice in an emergency room discovering what empathy means. It has been nominated for both the Prix Décembre and the Prix Femina.

Additionally, Autréaux’s first novel, Dans la vallée des larmes (In the Valley of Tears), will be published for the first time in English on October 1.

Autréaux began his professional career in the medical field, earning a Doctorate of Medicine in 1997. In 2006, after practicing for many years as an emergency-room psychiatrist, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to writing. Autréaux has published numerous novels, short stories, theater works, and one film script. The view of illness as an inner experience informs much of his writing.
