Huércanos Esparza Chairs NeMLA Panel
At the Northeast Modern Language Association conference held in March of this year, PhD student Íñigo Huércanos Esparza chaired a panel on nineteenth-century Spanish culture and national identity. Panelists covered a wide range of media (newspapers, novels, opera) and touched on topics such as the image of Spain abroad, the construction of a national canon, the uses of political fiction, and the remnants of imperialistic discourse.
