Sanchez Presents His Research

Shortly before spring break, Jorge Sanchez was invited by Dr. Kimberley C. Patton to present in her seminar The Animal Imaginary: Fantastic Animals in Myth and History. His presentation was titled “Latin American sirenas“, and he explored authors from his dissertation, such as Samanta Schweblin and Ana María Shua.

Additionally, he served as chair of a roundtable titled Voices and Shadows: Violence in Latin American Literature and Film for the 56th Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA), and presented a paper titled “Hybrid Women with Sharp Teeth: The Fantastic Metaphor as a Literary Tool for Social Critique”. For that paper, he examined short stories written by Agustina Bazterrica, Ana María Shua, Lina Meruane and Samanta Schweblin.
