Listernick Hosts Speaker on Covid & Camus + Rascism
Last fall, Dr. Joan Listernick invited Professor Debarati Sanyal of the University of California, Berkeley, to speak to both of her third semester French classes. The students read two of Dr. Sanyal’s blogs. One examined how Covid changed our reading of Camus, and how reading Camus can inform our understanding of Covid. The other addressed structural racism in America and presented some key historical and theoretical insights. It included a discussion of how the murder of George Floyd disrupted the social contract. In the zoom conversation that followed, Dr. Sanyal engaged with the students in a very personal way in discussing their questions about her blogs.
