Bianconi Publishes 2 Book Chapters

Celia Bianconi, Master Lecturer in Portuguese, has contributed chapters to two recent books. For Conexões o Ensino de Portugueês no Estados Unidos, a study of the reasons students in the U.S. choose to learn Portuguese, she wrote the sixth chapter, titled “Motivação no aprendizado da língua portuguesa nos Estados Unidos: Um instrumento de reflexão curricular.”

For the book Designing World Language Curriculum for Intercultural Communicative Competence, Bianconi contributed a chapter that places the recurring theme of resistance in the curriculum within the shifting presence of Capoeira as a key to understanding the cultural history of Brazil. “Capoeira traveled through history until it was recognized as cultural patrimony of Brazil in 2007. Today Capoeira attracts adepts in many parts of the world. The Brazilian martial arts is not only teaching movements; it represents the history and culture of Brazil,” explains Dr. Bianconi.
