Sembe Researches in Argentina
Karina Sembe spent a portion of this past summer in Argentina working on research toward her PhD in Hispanic Language & Literatures. She tells us about her trip:
“I went to Buenos Aires for a Research Abroad project funded by GRS and Romance Studies. I worked in the National Archive of the Nation to gather some of the missing documents for the second chapter of my dissertation, in which I explore colonial legislation and African kinship ties in the Rio de la Plata. During my two-week trip, I visited the neighborhoods where some of the events that I study took place and of course enjoyed local architecture, music scene, and cuisine as much as I could. It was winter in Argentina, but I was told it was a particularly mild one, so I lucked out!”
